After an informal brainstorming session with executives from a global trade show operator, I was hired to bring a new, self-conceptualized trade event to life.

Having spent nearly six years as the Editor of the world’s leading action sports business journal, trade shows had evolved from effective product-focused events to overblown marketing budget competitions. 

The Problem: The sheer size and scale of large-format shows made the act of covering these events frustrating. Finding new, exciting brands and forecasting upcoming trends had become nearly impossible. The market was asking for change and large-scale show operators were struggling to evolve.

The Solution:
Positioned at the intersection of fashion, art, and technology LAUNCH LA debuted at the historic Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on July 25–26, 2012. The event provided a select group of leading lifestyle brands a unique platform to showcase the latest apparel, swimwear, footwear, accessories, and apothecary products in an intimate business environment.

Poised at the front end of the critical Spring/Summer buying season, LAUNCH LA offered influential retailers and media a first look at a curated selection of products sure to shape trends in the coming seasons. Rooted in the youthful California lifestyle, LAUNCH is a platform provided for inspired, design-driven brands focused on product integrity and innovation to reach their true potential.

Comprised of the latest garments, accessories, gadgets, and equipment for an active lifestyle, LAUNCH LA was a carefully curated collection of brands, designers, artists, and visionaries at the vanguard of design and West Coast culture.
